Best Hill Stations Near Chandigarh: Top Getaways for Nature Lovers

As soon as you reach Kasauli, the first centre of attraction is Christ Church, which is one of India’s oldest churches. The Sunset Point and the Monkey Points are the best places to visit there. We usually visited in the evening to enjoy the serene view of the sunset.

The Mall Road of Kasauli is famous for its Chinese cuisine, Bun Samosa, and local shopping. Kasauli is one of the best hill stations near Chandigarh. It is only possible to be a Chandigarian by knowing about it.

The picturesque view of the mountains and the pleasant environment, i.e. 10-12°C temperature less than Chandigarh’s, makes it one of the most visited hill stations near Chandigarh.

You must cover many nearby places if you are visiting Kasauli, such as Parwanoo Timber Trail, Dharampur Dhagsai, and Barog Valley. If you are on a staycation, you can find good hotels with good ambience and food there.

Lush green mountains surround the place with a natural water lake in between. The heart of this hill station is Tikkar Taal Lake. You can enjoy boating and fishing in the lake. You can enjoy a picnic with panoramic views of the woods and participate in various activities like zip climbing, trekking, boating, and fishing in Morni Hills.

Just 2–3 km from Tikkar Taal, there is a waterfall named Burj Kotian which used to flow there. The water comes straight from the Himalayas, so don’t forget to take a dip to beat the heat of the hot summer in Chandigarh and the best time to visit is September to March.

To get there you can either own a vehicle or book a taxi. Do not forget to bring your hats and good sunscreen in summer.

Parwanoo is also known for its fruit products such as jellies, pickles, jams, and concentrated drinks. The famous Timber Trail spot is situated just on the roadside, making it easily accessible. You can enjoy an 18 km cable ride through the woods.

If you are visiting Parwanoo, don’t forget to visit the famous Kali Mata Mandir in Kalka and the Jabli waterfall. I am sure, your visit will be packed with temples, woods, cable rides, and various photogenic spots.

There’s a 1.8 km tunnel in Barog that is said to be haunted, as the engineer of the tunnel Colonel Barog had attempted suicide there. But don’t be scared these are just fiction.

Barog Valley is at its best during monsoon season and is considered the best time to visit for trekking. One of the oldest monasteries, Dolanji Bon, is also a centre of attraction.

Karol Tibba, a famous temple, is also there. It is said that there is a cave where the Pandavas from Mahabharata stayed. Barog camping ground is a registered camping site where you can enjoy night camping with your friends. So next time, if you plan to visit Shimla or a nearby hill station, do make your visit to Barog Valley too.

A newly built temple and park named Mohan Heritage Park is now gaining the most visitors in Solan. The city also has one of the oldest breweries that you can visit. The Mall Road of Solan is also famous for an evening walk, where you will see hundreds of locals and visitors strolling around. During my college days, every day in the evening, we used to walk on the mall road and enjoy the moment.

On the way to Solan from Chandigarh, you can enjoy your “Pahadon Wali Maggie” as you can find multiple food stalls that serve Maggie and other food items. This is my favourite reason to go to this hill station. The mountain view from your car window is so mesmerizing and delightful that you would want to enjoy it again and again.

On the way to Chail from Solan, there is a beautiful spot called Sadhupul, which is a perfect picnic spot. You can sit amidst the river and enjoy the beauty of the river while having food.

If you love animals, there is a wildlife sanctuary where you can see many animals. Chail Palace is also a famous spot there, and it is the same place where the famous Bollywood movie “3 Idiots” was shot.

The palace was once the summer capital of the Maharaja of Patiala, and now it has become the centre of attraction for many visitors. There is also a beautiful temple named Kali Ka Tibba.
